Turkish Angora Cats

Vit Angora Pictures, Images and Photos

If you love cats with glorious furs or beautiful coats, well, the Turkish Angora cat is suitable for you.

One of the amazing facts about his cat is that during the 1700’s in England and France, only the richest man or woman can afford to have this. They are regarded as a priced status symbol. Some of popular Turkish Angora owners were Marie Antoinette, Louis XV and Louis XVI.

These cat breed is named from Angora, the capital of Turkey. The probable origin of the Turkish Angora cats is from Russia and then the breed spread out to Persia and Turkey. They are so popular in Europe during the 1600’s because of their beautiful coats.  The colors often come in white but there are also blue and red in tabby, spotted and bicolor patterns.

They became so quickly popular after introduced in the United States during the 1800’s, however, their popularity melted down when the British Cat fancy categorized the longhaired-cats as Persian, Turkish and Russian, resulting to confusion. The Turkish Angoras were interbred with the Persian to improve the quality of Persian cat coats. This is to increase the Persian cat fur’s silkiness and length. Because of this the Persian cats were favored over the Turkish Angora. Turkish Angora cats ceased to appear in cat shows because of extinction. The Turkish government, seeing the need for saving their national treasure, began a feeding program for these extinct cats. However, the only Turkish Angora cats that are allowed for this feeding program are those that have odd eyes because they believe that these are the purest breed of Turkish Angora cats.

After World War II, the interest for these cats was reawakened. But because the Turkish government valued these cats very much, it is difficult to obtain one. With a careful cooperative breeding program, the Turkish Angora was able to find its way to the United States. However, the US Cat Fanciers accepted only white Angoras. It took several years before they are convinced that the Turkish Angoras can be of any colors.

Turkish Angora cats are adorable, intelligent, and have a very curious personality. They say that once you’ve got one, you won’t ask for any other breed. They are so affectionate and attached to a single person rather than the whole family. So, if you are a type of cat lover who wants to spend the rest of your life alone or is spending your life alone, well, this cat is also a great companion. They will never leave you and they will give their unconditional love and loyalty.

They are also active during their lifetime. They love to play around; the whole world looks like a playground for him. They need lots of interaction. If you leave them alone, they become lonely and bored. If you are planning to leave him for a long period of time, it is advised that you must also leave her with a female companion, otherwise he will find way to ease that loneliness and boredom at the expense of your beautiful and well-furnished home.
